Unable to assign a grade to an employee

In this article, we explain why a grade isn't appearing for you in the grade drop-down box to assign to an employee and what to do next.

When a job grade is marked as service based or home based, the employee record must match the grade setting for the grade to be selectable.

Check the settings

The first thing to do is to check the current settings for the employee and the grade.

✅Check the employee's record

First, check the employee's record to identify if they are home based or service based.

  1. From the menu, click People, then click Employees.

  2. Search for the employee in the list or using the Name search box and filters.

  3. Click the employee name, then click the Employee Info tab.

  4. Next to Is Home Based, check if the toggle option is turned on or off. On means it's set to home based.

✅Check the grade settings

Next, check the grade to identify if it's set to a home-based or service-based grade.

  1. Click Admin from the menu on the left.

  2. Scroll down to the Company section and click Configure Employee Grades.

  3. Locate the grade and click the edit icon

  4. Next to Is Home Based, check if the toggle option is turned on or off. On

    means it's set to home based.


Edit an employee's record

  1. Click People from the menu on the left.

  2. Click Employees.

  3. Search for the employee in the list or using the Name search box and filters, then click their name when you find it.

  4. Under the Employee Info tab, next to Is Home Based, turn the toggle on or off. On means it's set to home based.

  5. Scroll down and click Save.


Edit a grade

  1. Click Admin from the menu on the left.

  2. Scroll down to the Company section and click Configure Employee Grades.

  3. Locate the grade and click the edit icon

  4. Next to Is Home Based, turn the toggle option on or off. On means it's set to home based.

  5. Click Save.
